As general design contractor, Morstroytechnology conducted the engineering surveys and drew up the project and cost-estimating documentation.
JSC MCC EuroChem’s new transshipment complex is designed to handle mineral fertilisers bound for export. Its handling capacity upon completion of all three construction phases will be up to 6m tonnes per year. This new capacity will allow fertilisers to be handled in bulk, and the terminal’s equipment will allow it to import raw material for fertiliser should the necessity arise.
The investment agreements to build the terminal were signed at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in May 2019. It is planned for the project to be complete by 2022, enabling a reduction in transport costs for both Russian fertiliser exporters and their customers by replacing the supply route which currently goes through the ports of the Baltic States.
Construction works on the terminal include dredging the operating basin of the Luga Bay in the Gulf of Finland, installing sea- and rail transport facilities, as well as general port and auxiliary infrastructure.
During the first phase, berth 1 will be constructed with crane-rails, mooring facilities, sea cargo front 1 (on the first quay), a rail cargo front with unloading rails, a transit point, as well as open storage areas. Additionally, dredging work will be carried out in berth 1’s operating basin.
Over the course of the second phase, sea cargo front 2 will be constructed, along with a covered storage area for shipbound consignments of mineral fertiliser, a transport-conveyor system, as well as embankment reinforcement and dredging in the operating basin around berth 2.
The third phase will include the construction of the loading conveyor gallery at berth 2, another enclosed storage area for shipbound consignments of mineral fertiliser, as well as transport-conveyor systems, repair workshops and other auxiliary facilities.
Financing is planned to include funding from Rosmorport as well as direct investment by the developer, EuroChem Terminal Ust-Luga LLC.
