On 12 October 2017, Rosmorport was granted approval by Glavgosexpertiza following assessment of the validity of cost estimate documentation for construction work at the site in Nikol’skoe, located on Bering Island, one of the Komandorsky Islands in the Kamchatka region.
This approval was preceded in June of the same year by the granting of Gosexpertiza approval for the results of the engineering survey and project documentation for the site.
The project envisages the construction of a passenger quay and security buildings, together with a seasonal passenger waiting area. Construction work was necessary due to the dilapidated state of the existing quay at Nikol’skoe.
The new quay is designed to handle up to 15,000 tonnes of cargo and 15 800 passengers per annum, and will be able to berth both local and cruise vessels, as well as cargo shipping for supplies, fuel and building materials for the inhabitants of Nikol’skoe, and to service and supply the Komansdorsky state biosphere nature reserve.
