Customer: Baltic Metallurgical Terminal LLC

The purpose of the project: to determine the optimal configuration for transport schemes for the delivery of raw materials and finished products to the Vyksa Steelworks using river transport, and at the same time determine the possibilities for participating in these terminal schemes in the port of Ust-Luga.

The project covers the following tasks:

  • Analysis of the technical condition of the river berthing infrastructure in the region, assessment of the condition of road and rail infrastructure;
  • Analysis of the availability of a fleet suitable for the transportation of cargoes from the Vyksa Steelworks, the largest shipowners and availability of the fleet on the market;
  • Analysis of price data of transport service providers in the region – "pre-marketing" to select a service provider;
  • Calculation of the cost of transporting Vyksa Steelworks cargo along various routes by river transport and alternative overland routes;
  • Identification of possible benefits from changing to transport schemes using river transport;
  • Determining the permissible range of costs of transshipment in river ports at which transport schemes using river transport are optimal;
  • Analysis of possible schemes of interaction with transshipment service providers: investment requirement, cargo turnover guarantees.The creation of a price model helped determine priority transshipment points for the customer, and to this day the Vyksa Steelworks has been importing and exporting using the routes proposed in the project.

Economic effect of optimization is $ 2.5 million a year.
