The Maly Port LLC stevedoring company (Vostochny Port, Wrangel Bay) has commenced work on reconstructing quays 34 and 35 and dredging the port basin and approach channel. Once completed, the project will allow the terminal to berth CH-30 type vessels with a draft of up to 9m.
The design and evaluation documentation for the project, drawn up by Morstroytechnology, received approval from Glavgosexpertiza. Morstroytechnology also conducted an engineering survey of the quays and put together the working documentation.
It was a complex challenge to resolve – to specify the reconstruction work without interrupting operations at the terminal, in spite of the intensive nature of the work involved – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The project is being executed using a Public-Private Partnership scheme, a mechanism which is now widely accepted in the Russian ports sector. Rosmorport is the client, the stevedoring company is financing the work from its own resources, and once the facilities are operating it will receive revenue to recoup the costs incurred. The compensation will be drawn from additional income received by Rosmorport from port fees, tug services and mooring rental following the project’s implementation.
Rosmorport and the Maly Port stevedoring company are currently working on the question of the further development of Vostochny Port, which envisages the construction of a new quay 36.
The implementation of the full range of work to modernise the port infrastructure of the Maly Port coal terminal will enable an increase in capacity to 4-5m tonnes per annum.
